Then Now

The Quilting Barn began as a country store around 1890 by the Carnes family who owned a large farm north of Arlington. In 1917 it was sold to Clarence Brockwell and while still running the grocery, he opened it as a skating rink on Saturday nights, always a big night in the country.

S.Y. Wilson & Co. acquired the building in 1942 and equipped the building as a laundry mat. For the last 35 years prior to the Quilting Barn's opening, the store had served as a warehouse for S.Y. Wilson, Inc.

My name is Pat Vargo, and I am the new owner of the Stitchin' Station @ the Quilting Barn.

I was born and raised in Memphis, Tennessee. My husband, Marc, and I just celebrated our 15th wedding anniversary, and I have two daughters, Christen and Jennifer, and one step-son, Marc Jr. My daughter, Christen, recently married and graduated from law school and is waiting to take the Bar Exam. My other daughter, Jennifer, just recently moved to Los Angeles, and I miss her terribly. My stepson, Marc Jr, is a senior in high school this year. Boy, they do grow up fast!

I have been quilting since May, 2000. I enjoy machine piecing, but occasionally I try my hand at applique. I own a Gammill long-arm machine, and I enjoy doing edge-to-edge pantographs. While my Gammill is not in the shop, I will be happy to refer you to ladies that will do custom or pantagraph quilting for you.

I have wanted a quilt shop almost since the day that I learned to quilt, and finally my dream has come true. I guess good things come to those who wait.

I want to thank Lynda and Shelia for setting the bar high for this shop during their ownership, and my goal is to maintain and exceed the high standards.

I look forward to meeting each of you when you visit the Stitchin' Station @ the Barn!
